Winnie the Pooh must have had a bad cough
Why do we mix honey in with our hot teas and hot drinks in the winter time when we’re sick besides just to make it taste good?
Well, the viscous honey coast sensory receptors in the pharynx which are the same ones that produce coughs if you’re sick. Therefore, if you consume honey (or glycerol or liquorice) it’ll coat those receptors and suppress your cough (temporarily).

Diagnosis
I definitely have bed bugs.
I went to find my friend, K, who had bed bugs at his place 2 months ago. and he looked at my bites and said that they looked like his. He gave me his leftover anti itch spray and he told me not to sleep in my bed until there can be something done about my mattress. So from now until Tuesday at the latest I will be sleeping as little as possible in my chair.

Sleeping in my chair tonight
I think I have bed bugs… At first I thought it was just a mosquito that hasn’t left my room. The first day I woke up, I had 2 bites. One on my left leg and one on my toe (there isn’t even any meat on my toe!) The next day I woke up and i had 2-3 more bites. The day after that I had even more bites. Today I had a few more bites, and then in the middle of sitting in my bed doing work, I suddenly started feeling itchiness on the back of my thighs and I got up to examine them and realize that I had 3 more bites on the back of my thighs. Therefore I have concluded that I think that there are possible bed bugs on my bed. However, I can’t send in my sheets until tomorrow to the laundry lady so for tonight I’m going to have to sleep in my chair with my feet propped up……

Have a Marlinvelous Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving this year was very different for me. In the past, I’ve always either flown home for Thanksgiving or spent it at Harvard eating amazing HUDS food (one of the 2-3 times a year HUDS reveals its pecan pie). This year was, for obviously reasons, spent overseas. So because a bunch of my friends are all older than I am (ranging from the ages 24-50 something) we all decided to celebrate Thanksgiving together by holding an optional pot luck. if you wanted to bring something to eat, you could! if not, just show up. So since I dont know how to use my oven or else I would have baked something (the only thing I know how to do), I ended up just bringing oreos

and pretzels. Once I got there, my friends made me learn how to cook and make fries! Now I know how to make fries even if you don’t have a deep fryer, and I kn
ow how to make Canadian style stuffed potatoes. Looks kinda like this
For the main course, the boys cooked up fries, marlin, hamburgers, and chicken all on the mini grill that we had! I tried a little bit of everything.. it was DELISH. Especially Marlin. I don’t believe I’ve ever tried marlin before but its very very good when over the fire and the coals. Elizabeth made oreo dark chocolate truffles (which was a little bit too sweet) and peanut butter clusters which were amazing and I will try to attempt over xmas break. Audrey made cake and everyone dined on Oreos and desserts. I actually think more desserts were consumed than the main course! The potatoes definitely stuffed everyone because it was the first thing ready.
Then afterwards we divided up into boys vs. girls and played catch phrase, which is kind of like Taboo. You have a word or a phrase, and you can say or do anything to make your group guess the word except say the words themselves. It was pretty fun! But then it started getting late so I decided it was time to go home …. but just as I left, the rain started pouring down again. Now that I’m back… Its time to study again.. .No thanksgiving break for us on the island….
Today I was hit with significant homesickness and I miss home terribly. This doesn’t happen often„ I’m usually a pretty strong person but I think because all of my American friends are home for Thanksgiving made me extremely sad that I wasn’t able to spend this one at home with my parents.
so Happy Thanksgiving to all those reading this back in the Mainland! 19 more days until I can finally return home. 19!!!!!!!!!

Warm Showers
Yesterday was the first day since Friday that my shower has had warm water running from it. Seeing as I am usually not a long showerer, I took advantage of the fact that I may not have access to warm water for the next week and took a long warm toasty shower. On top of that, I also had no water pressure for the past 2 days so actually had to shower 2x at my friend Monica’s place which also only had cold water. If this had lasted any longer (not having warm water) I actually contemplated boiling hot water over the stove in pots and bringing them into the shower to use.
Today, we got a warning that high waves were crashing and big storms are coming our way, and since its been literally POURING (I’ve never seen rain come down this hard) on and off, today I came home and took another long warm shower before all my water pressure gets confiscated by our crazy storms.

Cold Weather
Today, while I was walking home, the wind was blowing and it was super super chilly. I got goosebumps and resorted to rubbing my hands over my arms. The weather has cooled down alot so that we rarely need to use our ACs or our fans - as long as I keep the windows open, a slight breeze will come in and I no longer sit in my room and sweat incessantly, which is nice because that also means I no longer have to take 2-3 showers a day.
It’s gotten so chilly outdoors at night time now its almost necessary to wear a thin sweater! Its almost as cold as the classrooms (the classrooms are always set at a super chilly temperature where hoodies and sweaters are a must). However, I didn’t realize how “cold” it was until I was channel surfing and the local weather channel informed me that it would go down to 71 degrees F tonight…. a low of 71. THIS WAS APPALLING. This means that first of all, I can no longer stand temperatures below the mid 70s without needing to wear a sweater. Secondly, how am I going to survive the United States over winter break if I can’t even survive our Caribbean winters?!

Filtered Water Teeth
When it rains really really hard (as it has non-stop the past 3 days), the water gets murky brown both from the faucet and from the shower. So when i woke up this morning, I was in the middle of brushing my teeth (I always let the water run) when the water turned murkey dark brown. Even after letting it run for a good 5 min, it didn’t change. Sometimes it lightens up… so the only resolution besides running around with toothpaste in my mouth looking like I have rabies for the rest of the day was to use filtered water from my fridge to rinse out my mouth and my toothpaste. So not only do I have clean teeth today but I always have very filtered teeth today.
